When you hear the phrase “dental emergencies,” you likely imagine a chipped tooth or severe toothache. There are many more situations, but they are often not that shocking. Dentists know what to do and how to handle them swiftly, but there is always that rare scenario that leaves them surprised. Keep reading to learn three unbelievable stories from other practices about their strangest dental emergencies.
1.) Maybe Not Man’s Best Friend
If you are a dog person or have a fondness toward this lovable animal, then you likely already know how loyal they are. You’ll have a companion who looks up to you with big ol’ eyes and a wagging tail. However, they can cause some trouble.
This was the case for one woman who phoned her dentist about a fallen dental crown. She got scheduled and had it reattached, and that was it! Urgent dental care was taken care of, but then she surprised the team after all was done. Turns out, it had fallen off a few days ago, but her pup swallowed it after it dropped from the counter! She was barely able to retrieve it after nature made a call of its own.
2.) Sprouting Garden
A toothache can often be the result of an infection or decay, to name a few. Dental practices are equipped to give you relief, but one patient’s case had the team looking a bit closer. This person rushed to their dentist with a nagging toothache. It was causing them a lot of discomfort, and a root canal seemed to be the best treatment. To give them the relief they deserve, the procedure got started right away.
As their provider were cleaning out the standard plaque and tartar, they spotted something. Looking a bit closer, a little plant was seen growing in their mouth! It turned out to be coming from a tomato seed that got stuck deep in their gums.
3.) Packing It In
A man once came to his dentist, stating how he wasn’t feeling very well. Their dentist got to work right away and did their usual routine. However, once they opened his mouth, they were greeted with one of the worst mouth infections in medical history! This patient had a hole in his palate and had been stuffing it with tissue. He proudly said that since he discovered it, he would do this and change it every week. Unfortunately, wet tissue and bacteria aren’t a good combination.
While you hopefully won’t experience any bizarre stories like these yourself, it’s important to do your best in avoiding them. Stick to your oral hygiene routine and have consistent visits with your dentist to keep your smile as strong as can be!
